Curing Your Oven & FAQ's

FAQ's

Do you install the oven or place it where it’s going to be?

We offer free consultation on oven placement and can answer most questions in your planning process, however we do not install the ovens.

Can I pick up the oven myself?

Absolutely. Ovens can weigh more than 1200 lbs depending on the model you purchase.

Can I have my full size oven shipped?

Yes!  The process is a little different though.  Our online store is not able to handle shipping pricing for LTL freight which is how our larger ovens ship.  If you are interested in one of our ovens, please reach out to get a shipping quote.  Once you approve the shipping quote and want to proceed we will have you order the oven and any accessories you would like online and then contact you to pay for the shipping charges over the phone.

Do you offer a warranty?

Traditional Portuguese ovens will tend to develop small cracks either inside or outside. This is normal and you should expect it to happen. It does NOT affect the oven however we provide a repair kit so that you can make small touch ups at home.

Instructions for Curing your Oven

It is imperative the oven is cured properly prior to first use. Curing is removing the moisture in the mortar during the manufacturing of the oven. Curing will maintain the integrity of your oven for its lifetime. So, yes, you need to cure your traditional oven and we also recommend this for your portable one as well. You will be starting small fires and repeating daily for 5 days.

Start a small fire and let it burn throughout the day (4-5 hours per day) maintaining temperature.

· Day 1. 140F for 4 hrs. min.

· Day 2. 215F for 4 hrs. min.

· Day 3. 300F for 4 hrs. min.

· Day 4. 400F for 4 hrs. min.

· Day 5. 480 for 4 hrs. min.

During the curing process, keep the door open. However, after each curing cycle, make sure that you close the oven door and shut the damper each night. This will help the drying of the oven, and will keep in the heat and protect moisture from getting in until the curing process is complete.

Cover your oven when not in use: Cover your oven to protect it from the elements. This will ensure that your oven will last a lifetime. Especially in the wintertime, as freezing moisture will cause damage.
